At the Christian school our children attend, one of the Bible courses is called Context of the Bible. The purpose of this course is to help the student supply some of the missing background concerning his knowledge of the time when the Bible was being written. It is amazing how helpful such knowledge can be Too often Christians treat the Bible as though it were The Book That Fell From the Sky. They consequently do not understand the context of the stories, examples, lessons, and commands that come to us in the Bible. Because nothing can be understood outside a context, the missing context is replaced with a modern one. Distortions of the Bible are the natural result.
